STUMPKNOCKERS ON THE SQUARE
Casual Dining - Good Food - Good Feelings
Nestled in the heart of Inverness Olde Towne is a taste of what old Southern hospitality is all about. Stumpknockers, as it is called by the local patrons, is one of two restaurants owned and operated by Tim and John Channell. Both brothers were born and raised right here in Inverness; they grew up living on the river, true sons of the South. (Might just be a little Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer in the both of them.) Featured at Stumpknockers is REAL Florida cooking. Lightly battered fried gator nuggets, frog legs, and catfish are but a few of the many delights offered at this fine establishment. Of course you will find excellent steaks, delicious deserts, fine wines and cocktails, but what else you will find here is great service, welcoming smiles and a willingness to please. In short, Southern Hospitality.
Tim and John grew up with the work ethic that isn’t so frequently seen these days. You could find them as boys picking and selling melons by the side of the road, earning their way and having fun doing it. I can picture the two boys having seed spitting contests and watermelon fights in between customers. Tim started Stumpknockers (named after the little local fish that likes to hide among the cypress knees) in 1988 just outside of Inverness on Highway 200. Back then, he did all the cooking himself using old family recipes that, in fact, are still being used today in both restaurants. The restaurant soon grew to the point where Tim hired a few people to help out and in 1998 Tim had the opportunity to purchase the property where Stumpknockers on the Square is located and convinced his brother John to quit his job and come on board running the Inverness Olde Towne Stumpknockers.
Ambiance is important to the dining experience and Stumpknockers has it. The place is appointed with real Florida treasures and a beautiful mural on the back wall depicting Florida as the boys knew it growing up. Today both Stumpknockers restaurants are running full steam ahead and are local landmarks. Occasionally there is entertainment as well as great dining. Tim and John invite you to come in, sit down, relax, eat ‘til you are full and laugh the night away.
STUMPKNOCKERS . . . casual dining, Southern hospitality
